Abstract

In this research work, an attempt has been made to evaluate the convective heat transfer coefficientduring drying of Garcinia atroviridis in open sun drying conditions. The initial sample had moisturecontent of 85% w.b., slice thickness of 8.89 and 16.70 mm and diameter of 43.10 mm. The convective heattransfer coefficient was determined by Nu = hCX/K = N(Ra)n equation. Values of the constant, N and n wereobtained by linear regression analysis. The results showed that the natural convective heat transfer coefficientswas 29.99 W/m2-°C, when N and n were found to be 1.818 and 0.245, respectively for Garciniaatroviridis slice of 8.89 mm thick and 29.43 W/m2-°C, when N and n were found to be 1.455 and 0.266,respectively for Garcinia atroviridis slice of 16.70 mm thick, at Pr = 0.705 and 2.292x10^4 < Gr < 2.980x10^4
