Abstract
This paper presents a research study of Cytogenetics of long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis)in Thailand. Blood samples of 2 male and 2 female long-tailed macaques from NakhonratchasimaZoo were collected and then subjected to cytogenetics studies by lymphocyte culture of whole blood. The cultured cells were examined by the Colchicine-hypotonic-ficxation-air-drying technique followedby conventional staining with Giemsa. The results showed that the number of diploid chromosome oflong-tailed macaque was determined to be 2n=42, the fundamental numbers (NF) were 83 chromosomesin males and 84 in females. The type of autosome was 6 large metacentric, 8 large submetacentric,4 medium metacentric, 12 medium submetacentric, 8 small metacentric and 2 small submetacentricchromosomes. In addition, a pair of chromosome No. 13 were clearly observable satellitechromosome. X-chromosome was the medium metacentric chromosome and Y-chromosome is asmall telocentric chromosome. The karyotype formula for the female and male long-tailed macaque isas follows :
Female long-tailed macaque 2n (42) = L6m+L8sm+M6m+M12sm+S8m+S2sm
Male long-tailed macaque 2n (42) = L6m+L8sm+M5m+M12sm+S8m+S2sm +S1t
