Ethical Affection for Honesty and Social Accountability of Members of The Thai National Assembly

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to : (a) Construct The Honesty and Social Accountability ofThai Politicians Test. (b) A degree of honesty and social accountability of Members of The Thai NationalAssembly. (c) The factors that influence the degree of honesty and social accountability of Members ofThe Thai National Assembly.

The sample consisted 244 members of The House of Representative from 5 political parties and87 Senators. The research instruments were (a) interview (b) questionnaire (c) the political ethicalbehavior scale and (d) the ethical affective test. The data obtained were t-test, Pearson ProductMoment Correlation Coefficient, factor analysis, alpha coefficient, multivariate analysis of variance andmultiple comparisons of Bonferroni.

The major findings were as follows :

1. The Honesty and Social Accountability of Thai Politicians Test showed that the reliability,calculated by α - coefficient was .70. The item discrimination index of t-test was significant at .01 level.The construct validity, calculated by factors analysis was valid to the construct table. The concurrentvalidities, calculated by Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was .44 - .64.

2. The degree of honesty and social accountability of subjects showed that it was level 3,meaning, Members of The Thai National Assembly value honesty and social accountability but they didnot adhere to it consistently. It was an unsatisfactory degree of honesty and social accountability.

3. The factors that found to have a significant relationship with the degree of honesty and socialaccountability of Members of The Thai National Assembly, showed that there were 3 variables from 7variables which were a salary satisfaction, length of time as a member of a political party and work value.
