Journal Impact Factors for Thai Academic Journals : Part II. Journal Immediacy Index
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work reported the Journal Immediacy Index (J—II) of articles published in 68 Thai academic journals within the scope of this article, the calculations of the JII being based on those by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). This work was restricted to only 68 journals being cited during the past five years (from 1996 to 2000), the calculations being based on sum of cross and self citations. It was found that the Immediacy Index ranged from 0.000 to 0.250, giving the average value of 0.063 which was very small. No significant relationship between the journal age and the Immediacy Index could be observed. There were only three journals; namely,(i) Songklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology, (ii) Kasetsart Journal: Natural Science, and (iii) Thai Journal of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, that gave the Immediacy Indexes in the last four years (within the interested period). In addition. it was found that 32 journals (approximately 47%) have never been able to produce the Journal Immediacy Index in the past 5 years, suggesting that articles in the Thai academic journals were rarely cited within the same years that they were published.
