Abstract

There are two objectives in the study of “Variables to Predict Mental Health and Adjustment of the Students at King Mongkut’s university of Technology Thonhuri.” First is to find what are the predictions of the mental health and the adjustment of the students at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonhuri. Second is to create the equations of the predictions of the mental health and the adjustment of the students.

The population are three hundred and twenty students which are random by stratified random sampling from first year undergraduates of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi. The analysis is stepwise multiple regression. The results of the study are:

1. The major variables to predict the mental health of the students are: the perception of one’s emotion and behavior (P2), the control—rearing (R2), the relationship —environment in the university among the samples, peers and elder undergraduates (E2), the building — environment (E3), the perception about one’s educational ability (P1), and relationship — environment among the members in the samples’ families (PA1). All these variables can predict the students’ mental health at 27.7 %.

2. The major variables to predict the students’ adjustment are: the environment in the family (PA), the self—perception (P), the relationship among the samples, peers and elder under-graduates (E2), and the building—environment (E3). All these variables can predict the students’ adjustment at 28.1%.

3. The equation of the mental health prediction in standard score is:

ZM = .352P2 — .195R2 + .222E2 + .140E3 + .141P1 + .118PA1

4. The equation of the adjustment in standard score is :

ZA = .251PA + .251P + .231F.2 + .102E3
