Food and Drinking Water Sanitation Situation in School at Sila Sub-District, Muang District, Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive study focus on food and drinking water sanitation situation in schools of Sila Sub-district, Muang District, Khon Kaen Province. Data were collected by using 1) The cafeteria sanitation assessment form based on the standard set forth by the Bureau of Food and Water Sanitation. (Thailand) 2) questionnaire on food sanitation knowledge attitude and practices of food handler. 3) Coliform bacteria contamination test kit. The study was conducted from December 2019 to February 2020. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The findings show that two schools are at an excellent level according to the food sanitation standards. Four schools are at a good level and two schools are not meeting the basic standard. Further, other three schools could not be assessed. Most of food-handlers (75.76%) have relatively high knowledge. All of them have attitude at good level (100%) and mot have good practice (93.94%). Contamination test results of coliform bacteria of, two schools have drinking waters with coliform bacteria contaminated exceeding the standards, six schools with food, utensils, food-handlers coliform contaminated exceeding the standards. Most coliform contaminated samples are food-handlers (46.15%). The food-handlers should be aware of food safety of consumers while responsible agencies should provide training, raise food and drinking water sanitation awareness and emphasize what the food-handlers lack such as text, knowledge, attitude and practice to lead to standardized sanitation.
