Evaluation of Municipal Solid Waste and Hazardous Waste Management: A Case Study of Ban Dong Sub-District Administrative Organization, Ubolratana District, Khonkaen Province

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the management of community solid waste and hazardous waste and its results; and 2) analyze factors affecting the success of community waste management in Bandong Sub-District Administration Organization, Ubonratana District, Khonkaen Province. The data were collected by interviewing and observing. A qualitative analysis of the data was based on the concept of Balanced Scorecard. The study found that the Organization has continuously developed plans/projects related to the management of solid waste and hazardous waste. There was a section assigned to be responsible for waste management work. People cooperated in the preparation of waste management projects. The personnel ware developed by study visits in the areas where were successful in waste management. The important factors affecting the success are the organizational leaders and personnel who aware of waste problems and have knowledge of waste management, cooperation of local people, and supports from external agencies. The obstacles are insufficiency of officers and budget.
