Abstract

Intensive English courses are KMUTT's ELT programme innovation to replace normal firstsemestercompulsory undergraduate English courses. This English-medium programme involvesstation-based modules and aims to encourage positive attitudes, language skills, and use of learningstrategies. Programme evaluation was conducted by using questionnaires to survey the attitudes of thestudents and teachers involved. On the whole, the results were positive. The students bore a positiveattitude towards learning and believed that their language skills had improved. The teachers' attitudes,however, varied considerably. They wondered whether the programme change was worthwhile. This paperreports the programme's evaluation results and discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the intensiveEnglish programme.
