Competencies of Computer Teachers for the Higher Education Level During 1997-2007

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the computer teachers’ competencies for the higher education level during 1997- 2007 in terms of administration and instruction based on the computer education experts’ opinions by using Delphi Technique. Seventeen experts were selected from various organizations in order to be a sample group. The questionnaires were used for data collection. The percentage, median, mode, and interquartile range were used for the data analysis.

The computer teachers’ administrative competencies for the higher education level during 1997- 2007 were: (1) they should be able to use Internet or Intranet for administering and communicating to other organizations, (2) they should he able to be lecturers or speakers in the training, seminar, and academic meeting. The computer teachers’ instructional competencies were;(1) they should be able to have knowledge and to teach by using the system approach, (2) they should be able to use the software to produce teaching media, (3) they should he able to produce teaching media on Web, CAI, and Home Page efficiently, (4) they should be able to get new technology to apply with research and development, (5) they should be able to advise the uses of computer, repair, and solve computer problems, (6) they should be able to write computer articles to be published and write computer textbooks for instructions.
