Appropriate Direction to the Community Based Management for Flash Flood-Land Slide Disaster in Thailand
Main Article Content
Abstract
Thailand has been continuously affected by flash flood-landslide disasters. The violence of such disasters can be reduced if there is learning from previous disasters. This article is intended to provide a lesson learned from the management of flash flood-landslide disasters by communities in Thailand. The research methodology consists of the process of document reviews, finding of critical dimensions, interviewing those involved, analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in order to obtain an appropriate model for disaster management, which covers surveillance, early warning, preparation for defense, response, and rehabilitation after the disasters have passed. To allow people to become self-reliant, the government should encourage communities to strengthen via integration of networks, learning the lessons on disaster management from the past, and knowing how to communicate with governmental agencies.
