Determinants of Out-of-Pocket Health Payment in Thai Elder

This study is purposely made for studying the determinants of out of pocket payment for health services in overall, and categorized by coverages and catastrophic health payment. This study employed secondary data from Well-being of Thai Older People research in 2015 conducted by National Institute of Development Administration. There are 3,277 individuals who received health care service from 2013 to. Using multiple regression analysis shows that gender, annual income, region and medical service coverages are influence on out of pocket payment for health service. The group that is covered by civil servants and social security has more average out of pocket payment for health service than the group covering by universal coverage. Using logistic regression analysis shows that age, income quintile, region, medical service coverages and inpatient service are influence on out of pocket payment for health service. This study presents universal coverage is likely to decrease health service burden and probability of catastrophic health payment. However Thai elder coverage doesn’t cover inpatient service burden. It can lead to catastrophic health payment.
