Abstract

The previous researches had studied on the modification of original peanut shelling machine. However, the sheller were large, heavy and expensive which caused high rate of grain breakage. Therefore, this research aimed to develop a twin roller peanut shelling machine. The study consisted of the machine design, working capacity and economic analysis. Peanut sheller consist of machine from, feeding container, twin roller of a shelling unit separating rollers, screen and power transmission system. At the beginning, unshelled-peanuts were fed into a shelling machine. Then, the rollers rolled with different speeds and peanuts were released to shelling rollers to separate seeds and shells. Testing results showed that the peanut shelling machine had working capacity at 228.33 kg/h, shelling efficiency at 89.80 %, grain breakage at 4.84 % and the specific energy consumption for shelling was 0.18 W-h/‎kg. It was 12.08 times different when use human labors that had working capacity of shelling at 209.43 kg/h. The breakeven point of the shelling machine was 45.62 days, if the machine operated for 8 hours per day and payback period was 0.23 year.
