Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive research aimed to study leadership soft skills and administrative factors affecting the prevention and control of Opisthorchiasis of the public health officers at sub-district health promoting hospitals in Khon Kaen province, Thailand. The samples consisted of 118 public health officers randomly selected by systematic random sampling from a population of 1,234. The in-depth interview guidelines were used for qualitative data gathering from 10 key informants. The questionnaire was examined and verified by the three experts for content validity with item objective congruence (IOC), all items greater than 0.50, and the test for reliability with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.99.  The results showed that the level of overall leadership soft skills was at a high level; the average was 4.03 (S.D.=0.57), the level of overall administrative factors was at a high level; the average was 3.86 (S.D.=0.67), and the level of overall prevention and control of Opisthorchiasis of the public health officers was at a high level; the average was 3.93 (S.D.=0.65). The results found that three independent variables; composed of one variable of administrative factors; management, and two variables of leadership soft skills; teamwork and originality affected and could jointly predict the prevention and control of Opisthorchiasis of the public health officers at 77.7 percent (R2 = 0.777, p-value <0.001). In addition, the public health officials in sub-district health promoting hospitals should be encouraged to prepare a human resource development plan for the prevention and control of liver fluke disease.
