The objective of this study was to investigate the problems, solutions, and factors influencing the decision of farmers to cultivate durians in eight districts of Bueng Kan Province, Thailand. The study involved 220 farmers out of a total population of 488. Data were collected using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews,
with the latter being used to gather problem-solving strategies from a focus group of 20 participants. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, as well as inferential statistics, specifically multiple regression analysis. The results indicated that the major problems in durian cultivation were economic, social, production-related, and farmer-related issues, with mean scores of 4.37 (S.D.=0.90), 4.25 (S.D.=0.82), 4.18 (S.D.=0.90), and 3.91 (S.D.=0.91), respectively. The moderate-level problem was related to marketing, with a mean score of 3.41 (S.D.=1.05). The factors significantly influencing the decision to cultivate durians were social, economic, marketing, government policy, and biological factors, with mean scores of 3.99 (S.D.=0.87), 3.94 (S.D.=0.84), 3.88 (S.D.=0.85), 3.62 (S.D.=0.96), and 3.54 (S.D.=0.97), respectively. The moderate-level influencing factors was physical factors, with a mean score of 3.49 (S.D.=0.92). The proposed solutions included developing farmer cooperatives, providing knowledge to farmers on quality durian production, systematic water management, and diversifying marketing channels. The inferential statistical analysis yielded a predictive equation for the factors influencing the decision to cultivate durians among farmers in Bueng Kan Province, expressed in raw scores as follows: Y = 0.573 + (0.356) (marketing factors) + (0.318) (economic factors) + (0.247) (biological factors).
