Concrete mixed with Cellular Lightweight Aggregate Impregnated with Paraffin Type Phase Changed Material

Abstract
This study aims to improve thermal properties of concrete walls using Phase Change Material. The paraffin type of phase change material was impregnated into the lightweight aggregates made from aerated concrete blocks. The PCM aggregates were used as an ingredient in concrete mixture and replaced non-PCM aggregates at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% by weight. The experimental series were divided into two parts. 1) The investigation on properties of paraffin aggregates. Results indicated the increase in both specific gravity and unit weight after the paraffin was impregnated into the aggregates. 2) The investigation on properties of concrete mixed with PCM lightweight aggregates which divided into mechanical and physical properties. For the mechanical property, it was found that concrete mixed with PCM lightweight aggregates exhibited higher compressive and flexural strength with the increasing PCM aggregate content. For the physical property, the concrete mixed with PCM aggregates was found to better heat storage capability. This prolonged the duration of heat transfer.
