Walk A Go: Multi-purpose walking stick to assist and track users via lINE application

Abstract

Thailand is considered one of the world's rapidly aged societies. As the elderly population increases, young workers starting employment outnumber births, while disabled old people require assistance. The elderly and visually impaired share stability issues, needing walking sticks to preserve their balance. Walk A Go multi-purpose smart cane was designed to assist and track users by LINE application enhanced by the Internet of Things (IoT). The proposed device includes an object detection function, fall notification, and indication of the user’s position by LINE. These functions make it especially useful for older consumers and the visually impaired. Testing has proven to be efficient in detecting objects with accuracy with a low error rate. It can also send alerts quickly.
