Abstract
Generally repetitive construction project is a large scale project, such as the construction of highway, tunnel, pipeline, high-rise building, and housing project. The main benefits provided by the use of repetitive scheduling techniques have been documented in past studies in terms of the increase in crew productivity. By using such techniques, repeating activities can be performed continuously from one unit to the next without interruptions. However, the development of these techniques is quite limited, especially the ability to determine activity’s floats, both total float and free float. While total float is defined as the number of days in which an activity can be delayed without delaying the project, free float is the number of days in which an activity can be delayed without affecting the staring time of the following activities. This article presents a method to determine total float and free float of a repetitive activity for each construction unit based on three types of relationships; Finish to Start, Start to Start, and Finish to Finish. This floating time is useful tools for contractors in keeping a construction project in schedule.
