Abstract

This paper presents an evolutionary-based approach for solving a combined economic and emission dispatch problems using Differential Evolution Method (DE). The objective function is formulated in forms of a linear combination of fuel cost and emission functions with appropriate weighting factors. The test system used in this work was a three-unit generator of multi-valve steam, turbines. The results obtained by the proposed method were compared to some well-known and efficient intelligent search techniques (Genetics Algorithm: GA, Simulated Annealing: SA and Particle Swarm Optimization: PSO). The results showed that the combined economic and emission dispatch problem can be solved by the proposed method efficiently and reliably.
