Abstract
This paper presents the adsorption of heavy metals such as copper, nickel, and zinc by red loess that found in the upper north-east of Thailand. The experiment use both batch test and column test method. Batch experiment is performed with different concentrations of heavy metals solutions at the time from 0 to 48 hours. Column test investigate the adsorption of the metal, leaching and repeated adsorption after leaching cycles. The results indicate that the highest and the lowest adsorption occurs with copper and zinc, respectively. Concentration of the heavy metal affected the volume of heavy metal adsorption that it increases with the concentration. The results of column test show that the reaching ability of loess ranked from the highest is copper, nickel and zinc, respectively. After reaching, loess lost the capacity to adsorb copper. While the ability to absorb zinc and nickel are still the same.
