Abstract

An influence of triple spheroidizing on drill wear in dry drilling gray cast iron was studied. Spheroidizing temperatures were 300°C, 450°C and 600°C. On the drill wear testing, the high speed twist drill diameter of 3 mm, the rotating speed of 1000 rev/min and the feed rate of 0.005-0.025 mm/rev were investigated. It was found that when the spheroidizing temperatures and the feed rate increased, the maximum thrust force, the maximum drilling torque and the maximum drill wear increased while the maximum drill wear factor decreased. The drill wear was found at the cutting lips and the chisel edge where the depth of wear is 0.35 mm.
