Abstract
The research aims to study effects of pH on sulfate reduction in UASB system for treatment of concentrated latex wastewater. The system was a continuous-mode Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) system operated at different pH of 5, 6, 7 and 8.5 . The organic loading rate was kept at 2 kg COD/(m3.d),and having hydraulic retention time (HRT) at 2 day with UASB reactor of 2.43 litres. The experimental result reveal that the system removal COD were 57.84, 63.92, 72.59 and 60.32 % respectively ; for sulfate were 50.70, 59.64, 64.79 and 47.87% respectively ; for suspended solid were 39.37, 56.63, 67.18 and 47.87 % respectively. For effluent pH average 8.08, 8.28, 8.44 and 8.56 respectively. By UASB system the best removal performance for COD, sulfate and suspended solid was found at pH = 7. For biogas volume obtained were 369, 367, 422 and 403 mL/d, respectively and the obtained methane percentages in the gas were found to be 40.68, 45.92, 53.44 and 30.37 % respectively.
