Abstract
This research has an objective to study on effects of austenitizing and tempering temperatures on the microstructure, tensile strength, Charpy impact strength (V-notch) and hardness of nickel plated steel (NPS). The austenitizing temperatures were 650ºC, 850ºC and 1050ºC for 6 hours. After the samples were quenched in water, they were tempered at 200ºC, 250ºC and 300ºC for 6 hours. The results showed that the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength and hardness decreased as the austenitizing temperature increased, but the Charpy impact strength increased. The yield strength and ultimate tensile strength decreased as the tempering temperature increased, when austenitizing temperature was 650ºC, but the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength increased as the austenitizing temperature increased from 850ºC to 1050ºC
