Awareness, Acceptance, and Attitudes toward the Application of Artificial Intelligence among Undergraduate Students: A Case Study of Digital Media Technology Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University

Abstract
The purposes of this research were to: 1) study students’ level of awareness of artificial intelligence (AI) use; and 2) examine factors affecting students’ acceptance of and attitudes toward the application of artificial intelligence. The sample consisted of 83 undergraduate students in the Digital Media Technology Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University. The sample size was calculated using Cochran’s formula with Finite Population Correction (FPC) at a 95% confidence level, and the participants were selected through voluntary sampling by responding to an online questionnaire.
The research instrument was a questionnaire on students’ awareness, acceptance, and attitudes toward the application of artificial intelligence. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis.
The research findings revealed that: 1) most students had more than one year of experience using artificial intelligence and used it regularly on a weekly basis. The main source through which students became aware of artificial intelligence was social media. The most frequently used tools were conversational artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT or Gemini, and information searching was the most common activity involving artificial intelligence. Students with longer experience in using artificial intelligence tended to use it more frequently, whereas the duration of artificial intelligence use did not differ among students in different academic years; 2) students had a positive attitude toward artificial intelligence use ( = 4.18), indicating acceptance of artificial intelligence use. The most influential factor was perceived usefulness of artificial intelligence use (
= 4.29) However, students also expressed concerns about the negative impacts of artificial intelligence, such as reliability and plagiarism; and 3) students showed a positive tendency toward future artificial intelligence use (
= 4.07) reflecting their intention and expectation to continue using artificial intelligence. They also expressed a need to learn about new artificial intelligence tools and the appropriate use of artificial intelligence. The factor with the greatest influence on intention to use artificial intelligence was social influence.
