Abstract
Sugar cane bagasse is mainly composed of cellulose and hemicellulose which can be converted to sugars and then further produce ethanol by fermentation, with a recent required to produce gassohol. The hydrolysis of sugar cane bagasse has a double consequence, the generation of a value-added product and the elimination of a waste. The objective of the study was to determine the effects of H2SO4 concentration, temperature and reaction time on the production of sugars. The optimum H2SO4 concentration of 3% at 120 oC and reaction time of 30 min were found in this studied. Under this condition 53.73% of reducing sugar was obtained. The amount of xylose, glucose and arabinose were also analyzed and found 25.76 g/l, 9.72 g/l and 3.38 g/l, respectively.
