Abstract

One of the indicators of producing quality graduates is the performance of the graduates during the licensure examination given by the governing boards. To fulfill in producing quality graduates, HEIs need to prepare students for the licensure examination. The effectiveness and the efficiency of the schools depends on the result of the licensure examination. The study aimed to investigate if admission test scores and high school grades are the predictors to pass the licensure examination for fisheries technologists. The study employed quantitative research design using a secondary data. These data are the admission test scores, high school grade, and the LEFT performance of the Bachelor of Sciences in Fisheries Technology (BSFT) graduates from 2015-2019. The data were analyzed using frequency, spearman’s rho correlation, and binary logistic regression. Result revealed that majority of LEFT takers entered the BSFT got an average entrance test score and good academic performance. Result presented that 35.5 % of LEFT takers passed the examination. Study confirmed that there was a weak, positive monotonic correlation between entrance test score and LEFT Results. It is also posited that the academic performance and LEFT Results has a weak, positive monotonic correlation. It is concluded that of the two variables, only the admission test score has the likelihood to influence the LEFT results. Study suggested that higher education institutions offering BSFT to consider accepting students with high admission test score since study confirmed that statistically, for every 1-point increase of the admission test score, the likelihood that the LEFT average score increase by approximately 2. The result of the study may serve as bases in conducting research considering other research designs. The study is only limited to admission test scores and high school grades, researchers may consider studying the mediating effect of review programs to the licensure examinations.
