Physical Education in Seventh-day Adventist Schools and Institutions: A Review of Health, Wellness, and Spiritual Integration

Abstract
This study explores the integration of physical education within the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church, focusing on its role in promoting health, wellness, and spiritual well-being. The SDA Church has long emphasized the importance of holistic health, combining physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions as key components of a healthy lifestyle. Physical education, often regarded as a means to improve fitness and physical health, is viewed within this context as a tool for promoting overall well-being in line with the Church's health principles, which include a plant-based diet, regular exercise, and abstinence from harmful substances.
Through qualitative method, this research examines how physical education is implemented within SDA schools and churches, the attitudes of the church community toward physical activity, and the alignment of physical education programs with the Church’s doctrines and health messages. Additionally, the study investigates the perceived benefits of physical education on spiritual development, stress management, and community building within the SDA faith.
The findings highlight that physical education in the SDA Church is not only about physical health but is intricately linked to the broader goals of promoting spiritual growth and fostering a sense of community. The study concludes that physical education plays a significant role in supporting the holistic health values upheld by the SDA Church, thereby contributing to the well-being of its members. Furthermore, the research advocates for further integration of physical education programs that align with the Church’s health principles to enhance the overall life experience of its members.
