The development of game prototype as an educational supplementary tool to enhance student’s English skill: a case study of grade 1

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to develop a computer game as a supplementary tool for primary school’s English courses 2) to evaluate the instructors’ satisfactions and opinions on the game prototype and 3) to evaluate the students’ satisfactions of using the game prototype as an educational supplementary tool. In order to achieve the identified purposes, the research methodology was divided into 6 phases as follows; 1) Planning and fact finding 2) Analyzing and identifying scope of the game prototype 3) Designing the game prototype 4) Implementing the game prototype 5) Testing the game prototype and 6) Evaluating the game prototype by 5 English instructors, and 50 students of grade 1 to grade 3 from the supportive primary school. The results showed that the scores of game prototype satisfaction from students are very high. And, the English instructors were extremely satisfied by the game prototype. In addition, the English instructors stated that the prototype’s contents were compatible with the program and class materials. The prototype, moreover, attracted students to the English learning program.
