Prototyping Korat Folk Culture Ontology

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the design and development a prototype ontology of Korat folk culture. This proposed ontology was used as knowledge based, to obtain useful information and knowledge about Korat folk culture from key words. This research process consists of 3 main parts. The first part is defining of ontology requirements which studying of 2 factors as follows: (1) Studying the characteristics and types of Korat folk culture from textbook and related documents, and (2) studying the existing cultural ontologies from related literature. The second part is ontology developing which used the finding results of the first part to design classes and their properties, then developed the Korat Folk Culture Ontology via the Protégé 5.0.0. The final step is third part which evaluated the proposed ontology in aspect of their knowledge retrieval performance. The results revealed that the Korat Folk Culture Ontology has 167 classes such as actors, culture heritage, description, famous person expert and Korat culture. There are 88 of Object properties and 11 of Data properties. The performance of knowledge retrieval obtains the Recall at 0.985, Precision at 0.664 and F-measure at 0.752. These results indicate that the propose ontology provided good performance in order to use be the background knowledge base for a cultural searching system.
