This research and development study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a maternal readiness program for caring for newborns with neonatal jaundice. The research process consisted of three phases: (1) situation analysis to identify the problems and needs of mothers and healthcare personnel, (2) development of the maternal readiness program for neonatal jaundice care based on Bandura’s Self-Efficacy Theory, and (3) implementation and evaluation of the program with the target population. The sample consisted of 50 mothers of newborns diagnosed with neonatal jaundice admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Yasothon Hospital, purposively selected and divided into an experimental group (n = 25) and a control group (n = 25). Research instruments included (1) a demographic questionnaire, (2) a neonatal care behavior assessment (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.90), and (3) a maternal satisfaction questionnaire (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.94). Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing with paired t-tests. The findings revealed that mothers in the experimental group demonstrated significantly improved neonatal care behaviors (p < .05), reported very high levels of satisfaction with the program, and exhibited a markedly reduced rate of neonatal readmission within 28 days compared to the control group. These results indicate that the developed program is effective and can be applied in healthcare settings to enhance maternal capacity in caring for newborns with jaundice.
