Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study that focuses on increasing the efficiency of the water free vortex turbine by installing baffle plates on the blades. The simulation of flow with the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) program. In conjunction with test for the efficiency of electricity production by laboratory experiments. This requires the installation of a turbine baffle plates four different sizes. At this cross-sectional area of the turbine blades ranging from 25%-100%. In this experiment, the turbine has a diameter of 45 cm, a height of 32 cm and a 5 blades. Test at the water flow rate of 0.04-0.06 m3/s. From the experiment, the blades with a 50% baffle plate proportion are the most effective at 43.83% and higher in the absence of baffles 6.59%. Furthermore, when the flow rate increases it will increase the efficiency of the system.
