Abstract

This research paper presents the study on polarization of light from polarized sunglasses using android smartphones which were downloaded the Physics Toolbox Sensor Suite application. According to the unique features of the android smartphones Vivo V5s, Samsung Galaxy S5 and Oppo A37 were chosen to be used in this study. All of three smartphones were put away from the linear polarized light source at 2, 5, 10, 15 and 20 cms. It was found that the relationship between polarization angle and intensity of polarized light corresponds to the Malus’ law and was maximum at the distance 2 cms. The percentage error from using all of three smartphones were 1.87 ± 0.01, 0.21 ± 0.01 and 1.59 ± 0.01 and the regression coefficient (R2) were also found to be 0.9966, 0.9974 and 0.9980 respectively.
