Author Guidelines
1. Before You Submit
- Scope. Check that your work fits one of the six subject areas in the Aims & Scope. Out-of-scope manuscripts are declined without review.
- Originality. The work must be original, not published before, and not under consideration elsewhere. Posting a preprint (e.g., on a preprint server) is allowed; please give its DOI in the cover letter.
- Conference papers. Extended versions of conference papers are considered only if they contain substantial new material (normally at least 30%) and cite the original paper.
- Language. Manuscripts must be written in clear English (British or American, used consistently). Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to have the manuscript edited before submission. Manuscripts with language too poor to assess are returned.
- Similarity. All submissions are checked with iThenticate. Manuscripts above 30% overall similarity, or with substantial copied passages, are declined.
2. Article Types
| Type | Description | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Research Article | Original findings with a clear research question, methods, results and discussion. Case studies are considered only when they have broad relevance beyond a single site. | ≤ 12,000 words incl. references; ≤ 10 figures + tables recommended |
| Review Article | Critical synthesis of the literature that identifies gaps and future directions, not a descriptive list of studies. Systematic reviews should follow PRISMA. | ≤ 12,000 words incl. references |
3. Submission Files
AJSTR uses double-blind review, so author information must be kept out of the main manuscript.
Remove personal information from file properties in Word (File › Info › Inspect Document) before uploading.
4. General Format
| Font and size | Palatino Linotype, 10 pt (as set in the template) |
| Page set-up | As in the template; continuous line numbers and page numbers on |
| Headings | Numbered: 1. Introduction; 2.1. Subsection; 2.1.1. Sub-subsection |
| Units | SI units throughout; a space between number and unit (25 °C, 10 mg L−1) |
| Names | Scientific names in italics (Zea mays L.); give the full name at first mention |
| Equations | Word Equation Editor or MathType (not images); numbered (1), (2) at the right margin |
| Abbreviations | Define at first use in the abstract and again in the main text; avoid abbreviations in the title |
5. Manuscript Structure
- Title — concise and specific, ≤ 250 characters, in title case, without abbreviations.
- Abstract — one paragraph, ≤ 250 words, covering background, methods, main results (with key numbers) and conclusions, without headings or citations.
- Keywords — 3–5 specific terms that do not simply repeat the title.
- Introduction — context, a focused review of relevant recent literature, the knowledge gap, and the objectives of the study.
- Materials and Methods — enough detail for others to repeat the work: materials and suppliers, experimental design, number of replicates, analytical methods, statistical analysis and software. Include ethics approval details here where applicable.
- Results and Discussion — may be combined or separate. Report results with appropriate statistics (mean ± SD or SE, n, test used, p-values) and compare them critically with previous studies.
- Conclusions — main findings, their significance, limitations and future work, without repeating the results.
- References — in ACS style (Section 7).
Review articles may use a free structure with clear thematic headings, but must include an abstract, keywords, introduction, conclusions with future perspectives, and references.
6. Figures and Tables
- Place each figure in the text after its first citation, and also upload it as a separate TIFF, JPEG or PNG file.
- Resolution: ≥ 300 dpi for photos, ≥ 600 dpi for line art.
- Name files Figure_1.tif, Figure_2.tif, etc.
- Caption below the figure: Figure 1. Caption text.
- Label panels (a), (b), (c) and explain them in the caption; include scale bars on micrographs.
- Use readable fonts (≥ 8 pt at final size) and colours that remain distinguishable for colour-blind readers.
- Obtain permission for any figure reproduced from another source and state it in the caption.
- Create tables with the Word table function — not as images or pasted Excel objects.
- Caption above the table: Table 1. Caption text.
- Horizontal lines only; no vertical lines.
- Give units in column headings, e.g. "Yield (t ha−1)".
- Explain abbreviations and statistical letters in footnotes below the table.
- Do not present the same data in both a table and a figure.
7. References — ACS Style
- Number references in order of first citation in the text, tables and figure captions.
- Cite with numbers in square brackets before punctuation: [1], [2,5], [3–6]. With an author's name: "Smith et al. [4] reported…".
- List all authors (up to 10; for more, list the first 10 followed by "et al.").
- Abbreviate journal titles according to ISO 4 / LTWA. Include the DOI for every reference that has one.
- References in other languages: give the English translation of the title and add "(in Thai)", "(in Chinese)", etc. at the end.
- Accepted but unpublished papers may be cited as "in press". Unpublished data and personal communications should be mentioned in the text only, not in the reference list.
- Prefer peer-reviewed sources. Most references should be recent (last 10 years), and self-citation should be limited to what is genuinely relevant.

8. Declarations (Title Page)
The following statements go in the Title Page during review and are added to the published article after acceptance.
- Author contributions (CRediT). e.g., "Conceptualization, A.B. and C.D.; methodology, A.B.; investigation, E.F.; writing—original draft, A.B.; writing—review and editing, C.D.; supervision, C.D. All authors have read and agreed to the published version of the manuscript." See the CRediT taxonomy. Everyone listed must meet authorship criteria; others are thanked in the Acknowledgements. Changes to the author list after submission require a signed request from all authors.
- Funding. "This research was funded by [funder], grant number [xxx]." or "This research received no external funding." Use funder names as listed in the Crossref Funder Registry.
- Acknowledgements. Technical, administrative or in-kind support not covered by authorship or funding.
- Conflicts of interest. "The authors declare no conflict of interest." or a description of any financial or personal relationship that could be seen as influencing the work, and the role of funders in the study.
- Data availability. State where the data supporting the results can be found (repository and DOI/link, within the article and supplementary material, or available on reasonable request with the reason).
- Use of AI tools. See Section 10.
9. Research Ethics
- Human participants (including surveys and interviews): give the name of the ethics committee, approval number and date, and state that informed consent was obtained.
- Animals: give the institutional animal ethics committee, approval number and date, and follow the ARRIVE guidelines.
- Field work and biological resources: state permits for sample collection and comply with national rules on access to genetic resources.
- Image integrity: do not enhance, move, remove or add features in images. Adjustments to brightness or contrast must apply to the whole image and must not hide information.
AJSTR follows COPE guidance. Full policy: Publication Ethics.
10. Use of Generative AI
- AI tools may be used to improve language and readability. Authors must check all output and remain fully responsible for the content.
- AI tools cannot be authors and cannot be cited as a source of facts.
- AI must not be used to generate or alter data, results or images, unless AI is part of the research method and is fully described in the Methods.
- Declare any use in the Title Page, e.g., "During the preparation of this work the authors used [tool] to improve language. The authors reviewed and edited the content and take full responsibility for the publication." Routine spelling and grammar checkers need not be declared.
11. After Acceptance
- APC: THB 6,000 (authors in Thailand) or USD 200 (international authors), payable after acceptance. Payment instructions are sent with the acceptance email. There is no submission fee. Waiver requests should be made at submission.
- Final files: upload a clean, final manuscript with author information restored, and figures at full resolution.
- Proofs: check page proofs within 3 working days. Only corrections of errors are allowed at this stage.
- Licence: authors keep copyright; articles are published open access under CC BY 4.0 with a Crossref DOI.
- Corrections: if you find a significant error after publication, contact the editorial office promptly so that a correction can be published.
