A study of effects of the reduction of remedial instruction time by testing iD the secondary schools in Songkhla province was aimed at making a comparison of the reduction of timg in remedial instruction in four types of instructional groups: the speed test, lhe diagnostic test, the combination ofthe speed test and diagnostic test, and the normal instructional group without using tests which served as a control group. Ths study also compared the proportion of the studenls whose achievement was similar but differed in the time used in doing the tests. Those who experienced no problems in coping with the speed and thosewho experienced the problems in coping with the speed. The final objective was to srudy the methods of the remedial instruction used by a teacher who was given information derived from the diagnostic tesrs for a panicular group and was not given the information for the other group. Similarly, the methods of remedial instructions used by the teacher for a padcular group with lhe information de ved from the diagnoslic tests and the group without the information were the same, using small group instructions, allowing the students to teach each other, or having the studenls do parallel tests.
