Abstract

This research was the first cytogenetic study of large Indian Civet (Vivera zibetha).Female blood samples were taken from the species kept in Khoa Kheow Open Zoo and Dusit Zoo, no male animal are raised in the zoo. After the standard whole blood lymphocyte culture in presence of Colchicine, the metaphase spreads were performed on microscopic slides and air-dried. Conventional Giemsa,s staining was applied to stain chromosome. The results showed that the number of diploid chromosomes of large Indian Civet was 2n (diploid) = 38. The fundamental number (NF) are 60 chromosomes in female. The type of chromosome are 6 large metacentric, o large submetacentric, o large acrocentric, z large telocentric, z medium metacentric, 2 medium submetacentric, 2 medium acrocentric, 2 small metacentric, + small submetacentric, + small acrocentric and z small telocentric chromosome,a pair of chromosome 1z having clearly observable satellite chromosome. As the results of it showed that the G-band staining technique, it showed ras of total bands and their specific locations in the chromosomes of large Indian Civet. These can be used to clearly identify each pair of chromosomes. 'I'he karyotype formula for the female large Indian Civet (Vivena zibetha) is as follows : zn (f a) = L' +L'' +L" + L' +Mn' +M"n *Mu + S'+S'' +S" +S' In additi
