Experimental Investigation of Thermosyphon Economizer to Recover Waste Heat in the Electronics Industry: Case Study in Electronics Industry

Abstract
This research present a case study to design, construction and test a Themosyphon economizer for increasing the temperature of feed water by using waste hot water. The Thermosyphon were made of copper tube with the outside diameter of 19.05 millimeter with a total of 80 tubes when the evaporative length, adiabatic length and condensation length was 300 millimeter, 10 millimeter, 300 millimeter, respectively. The working fluid was R-134a, filling ratio was 50 % by evaporative volume, and the Thermosyphon were arranged in the form of staggered. In testing performance flow rate of the feed water was set at 10 liters/min and controlled inlet feed water temperature at 25 °C. The average flow rate of the hot water was set at 5, 7, and 10 liters/min, respectively. The test results showed that the maximum of heat transfer rate from the condenser at the flow rate at hot water 10 liters/min. Which temperature testing at 45, 55 and 65 °C, respectively. The test results showed that flow rate of hot water at 10 liters/min get the maximum of heat transfer rate from the condenser 4,217, 6,169 and 8,690 W, which temperature testing at 45, 55 and 65 °C, respectively. Moreover, outlet temperature of feed water initiated at 25 °C change to 31.2, 34 and 37.5 °C, respectively. Therefore, the increasing of the outlet feed water temperature saved more energy consumption in process. Finally, the effectiveness with the water temperature of 45, 55 and 65 °C were 0.47, 0.48 and 0.49, respectively.
