สารประกอบโพลีไซคลิกอะโรมาติกไฮโดรคาร์บอน (PAHs) จัดเป็นสารมลพิษอินทรีย์ที่เป็นปัญหาสำคัญในสิ่งแวดล้อม แหล่งที่มาที่สำคัญ ได้แก่ การปนเปื้อนน้ำมันปิโตรเลียมและการเผาไหม้ที่ไม่สมบูรณ์ของสารอินทรีย์ความคงตัวในสิ่งแวดล้อมของสารกลุ่มนี้ขึ้นกับการจัดเรียงตัวของวงเบนซีนและมวลโมเลกุล นอกจากความเป็นพิษในด้านการเป็นสารก่อกลายพันธุ์และสารก่อมะเร็งในสัตว์แล้ว PAHs ยังมีความเป็นพิษต่อพืชหลายประการได้แก่ ยับยั้งการเจริญเติบโตของยอดและราก การสังเคราะห์ด้วยแสง ความเป็นพิษในระดับยีนและโมเลกุลเกี่ยวข้องกับการเพิ่มความกดดันที่เกิดจากปฏิกิริยาออกซิเดชัน เช่น การสะสม H2O2 และลดการแสดงออกของยีนของโปรตีนที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการขยายตัวของผนังเซลล์ PAHs ที่ถูกออกซิไดส์ด้วยแสงจะเป็นพิษมากขึ้นความเป็นพิษของ PAHs ต่อพืชยังขึ้นกับชนิดของพืชและปัจจัยทางสิ่งแวดล้อมอื่น ๆ เช่น pH ของดิน ดังนั้นความเป็นพิษของโพลีไซคลิกอะโรมาติกไฮโดรคาร์บอนต่อพืชเศรษฐกิจที่ปลูกในบริเวณที่ปนเปื้อนสารประกอบกลุ่มนี้เป็นปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อมที่ต้องให้ความสำคัญ

Abstract

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a group of important organic pollutants and shouldbe concerned. General sources of PAHs are contamination of petroleum hydrocarbons andincomplete combusion of organic compounds. The recalcitrance of these compounds depends onthe arrangment of benzene rings and their molecular weight. Besides, they are carcinogenic andmutagenic to animals, PAHs show several toxicity to plant, such as decreasing shoot and rootgrowth and photosynthetic rate. PAHs are toxic to plant at molecular level, such as increasingoxidation pressure and decreasing gene expression of cell wall-loosening protein expansion.Photooxidized PAHs showed higher toxicity to plant than parent compounds. Plant species andsome environmental factors, such as soil pH, affect to PAHs phytotoxicity. Phytotoxiciy ofPolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to crop plant growing in Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarboncontaminatedsoil is an important environmental concern.
