Abstract

This research article aims to study the guidelines for developing the organic farming system and driving the organic farming system for small farmers in Doi Saket District. Chiang Mai Province enters the participatory organic farming certification system for small farmers, Doi Saket District, Chiang Mai Province. Purposive sampling was selected, including a group of small organic farmers in Ban Dok Daeng, Sanga Ban Subdistrict, Doi Saket District, Chiang Mai Province, totaling 22 people. The study was conducted using a participatory action research methodology. There is a 3-step study process: 1) group discussions and in-depth interviews with farmer leaders to evaluate appropriate organic farming system development guidelines, 2) use the knowledge management process to create knowledge on organic farming principles and provide workshops from organic farming experts to try out demonstration plots to promote the potential of small farmers to enter the participatory organic farming standard certification system, and 3) conduct an assessment of organic farming plots according to the participatory organic farming standard certification process.

     The study results found that the Ban Dok Daeng Farmers Group, Sanga Ban Subdistrict, Doi Saket District Chiang Mai Province, has knowledge of organic agriculture but needs a proper understanding of area management to develop a standard organic farming system. An appropriate approach for developing farmer groups is to develop farmers' knowledge about organic farming standards and train them to manage their land according to organic farming guidelines. In this regard, the researcher has promoted the creation of a network, causing sample farmers to become members of the Chiang Mai Sustainable Farmers Federation. The federation committee plays a crucial role in advising on production techniques and transferring knowledge of organic farming system management to farmer groups. This enables farmers to adjust agricultural land management to meet the certification criteria and receive 1 Participatory Standard or PGS certification.
